Breece Hall Out 2-3 Weeks, Expected Back For Season Opener

Jets RB Breece Hall will be out 2-3 weeks with his groin injury but is expected back for the start of the season, HC Aaron Glenn said Tuesday.

Jets RB Breece Hall left Monday morning's practice with an apparent lower-body injury. Early indications point to an issue in the groin area, but we'll watch for further details.

Update: HC Aaron Glenn downplayed the severity after practice, telling reporters, "I don't think it was a big deal." The RB will get further evaluation, of course. We'll see what else the team has to say.

Jets RB Isaiah Davis will miss "a couple of weeks" with what the team website calls a "minor" knee injury. That comes amid a competition between Davis and Braelon Allen for touches behind starter Breece Hall. And HC Aaron Glenn had some nice things to say about Allen on Thursday.

The Jets are placing the franchise tag on RB Breece Hall. The move doesn't really come as a surprise. Speculation for weeks has centered on the team using either the franchise or transition tag to keep Hall around. But the details here still look noteworthy. The tag guarantees a $14.293 million one-year deal (once the player signs) if there's no long-term deal by mid-July.

The Jets have fired OC Tanner Engstrand, according to multiple reports. It's a late move for the Jets, whose season ended almost a month ago. "[HC] Aaron Glenn and Engstrand had multiple conversations about his role moving forward. Simply, they decided to move forward separately," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said. New York ranked 29th in both points and total yards in 2025, although it's tough to pin too much blame on Engstrand considering the state of the roster. The new OC will inherit an offense with a big question mark at QB, a potentially Breece Hall-less backfield, and nothing at WR behind Garrett Wilson.
