        Marcus Davenport out Week 1

Vikings Edge Marcus Davenport is inactive for today's game against the Buccaneers. He suffered an ankle injury in Friday's practice and entered the day questionable. We'll see about his status for Week 2 and beyond. Davenport is merely a low-level IDP option until he proves otherwise.

Davenport gets 'prove it' deal in Minnesota

The Vikings are signing EDGE Marcus Davenport to a one-year, $13 million deal, according to multiple reports. It's a good-sized "prove it" opportunity for the former first-round pick, who managed just a half-sack, 2 tackles for loss and 8 QB hits over 15 appearances with the Saints last season. Davenport topped out at 9 sacks (in 11 games) the year before but clearly disappointed across five years in New Orleans. Injuries played a big role. So we'll see whether he can hit 2023 healthy, stay there, and repay the Vikings for the opportunity. His arrival could signal the departure of EDGE Za'Darius Smith, who recently asked the team to let him pursue trade opportunities.

Jordan questionable vs. 49ers; other injuries to sort out

Saints EDGE Cameron Jordan (eye) is questionable for Sunday's game against the 49ers. He managed limited practices all week after missing the 1st game of his career with an orbital-bone injury. We'd bet on him returning. EDGE Marcus Davenport (calf) and CB Marshon Lattimore (abdomen) are also questionable. Lattimore is the one to watch. If he's ready to go, it would be his 1st appearance since Week 5.

        Werner hurts ankle

Saints LB Pete Werner left Monday night's loss to the Ravens with an ankle injury. We'll see about the severity this week. New Orleans heads to Pittsburgh on Sunday. EDGE Marcus Davenport also left the game early with a calf injury. He shouldn't be in IDP plans even when healthy at this point, though.

        Davenport coming off multiple surgeries

Saints DE Marcus Davenport is enduring "a particularly rough offseason health-wise," according to Katherine Terrell of The Athletic. The 5th-year edge player has had 2 surgeries for his injured right shoulder and 3 on his left pinky. The finger injury dates back to college, with the most recent setback being an infection developing after he broke a plate previously inserted into the finger. Davenport says the digit is down to a "nub." The combo of operations have kept Davenport out of workouts this offseason, and it's not yet clear whether he'll start training camp on time. "Training camp would be the goal," HC Dennis Allen said recently. "We've just got to wait and see where he's at." Davenport is in the final year of his rookie contract and coming off a career-high 9 sacks in just 11 games. If he can get all the way back far enough ahead of Week 1, there's plenty of upside. But Davenport also has yet to play more than 13 games in a season. So we'll be tempering expectations.

        Davenport questionable vs. Dolphins

Saints DE Marcus Davenport is questionable for Monday night's game against the Dolphins, with shoulder and knee injuries. He managed limited practices all week, though, and played his normal snap allotment in last week's win over the Buccaneers. We'd bet on Davenport playing. The late kickoff, however, obviously adds risk to waiting on him in your IDP lineup. Consider securing Saints DT David Onyemata -- or another available starter from the game -- as insurance if you plan to use Davenport.

        Davenport out again

The Saints have ruled DE Marcus Davenport out or the 2nd straight game because of a shoulder injury. With DE Tanoh Kpassagnon also out (ankle), Cameron Jordan and Carl Granderson figure to lead the position again. Jordan is an easy play in most IDP lineups. It's also an upside spot for Granderson, in deeper IDP formats.

        Davenport out vs. Bills

The Saints have ruled DE Marcus Davenport out for Thursday night's game against the Bills with a shoulder injury. New Orleans will also miss DE Tanoh Kpassagnon, leaving Carl Granderson as the likely playing-time leader opposite Cameron Jordan on the D-line. Granderson has just 1 sacks and 4 total QB hits on the season and hasn't cracked 40% playing time since Week 2. Jalyn Holmes is the only other healthy true edge player on the current roster. The Saints could struggle to pressure Josh Allen this week, though Jordan and DT David Onyemata stand out in that area.

DE Davenport, LB Alexander designated to return

The Saints on Tuesday designated DE Marcus Davenport (pectoral) and LB Kwon Alexander (elbow) to return from IR. That doesn't yet restore them to the active roster. The team will have this week and the next 2 to decide on that for each player. But the designation suggests the Saints believe each player is close to being ready. Davenport should work his way quickly back into the starting lineup upon his return. Alexnader, on the other hand, might have to watch rookie LB Pete Werner take his job. We'll see how that situation develops over the next few weeks.

        Davenport, Alexander land on IR

The Saints have placed DE Marcus Davenport (shoulder) and LB Kwon Alexander (elbow) on IR. That means both starters will miss at least the next 3 games. We'll see beyond that. Zack Baun and Kaden Elliss are the next 2 LBs up behind leader Demario Davis. Each played 40% of the Week 1 snaps, with Alexander at 60%. It's tough to bet on either in IDP lineups for Week 2. At DE, Carl Granderson and Tanoh Kpassagnon will see more time with Davenport out.

        Davenport has strained pec

Saints DE Marcus Davenport strained a pectoral muscle in Sunday's win over the Packers. "He'll miss some time, but should be back sooner rather than later," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says. Whether the team places Davenport on IR should tell us more about when he might actually return. DE Carl Granderson looks like the next man up for New Orleans, with Tanoh Kpassagnon right there as well. First-round rookie Payton Turner was a healthy scratch in Week 1 and doesn't look like he'll be in the picture yet.

        Davenport injures pec

Saints DE Marcus Davenport came away from Sunday's opener with a pectoral injury, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The team is reportedly awaiting results of an MRI, so we'll see about the severity.
