Brandon Aiyuk Gives Clearest Sign Yet He Doesn't Know What He's Doing

Niners WR Brandon Aiyuk has delivered a series of immature rants on social media this offseason, but his latest might be the most alarming about his actual NFL and fantasy football outlook. Aiyuk posted the following on Instagram: "I will not be reinstating with [the 49ers] or ever doing any kind of business with them. I'm locked in and focused on my opportunity to return to the field this season! #RAISEHAIL"

Did Brandon Aiyuk Just Talk Himself Out Of Washington?

Washington has looked like WR Brandon Aiyuk's most likely landing spot all offseason. The Commanders have a need behind WR Terry McLaurin, and Aiyuk played with QB Jayden Daniels at Arizona State in 2019. But Aiyuk seemingly burned that bridge in his latest social media video. "You’re on my team now," Aiyuk said, talking to Daniels. "You follow my rules. Boy, I’m a grown ass man. You’re gonna have to start running behind your momma and I might believe what you’re talking about, but until then, uh-uh.”

Brandon Aiyuk Headed to Washington ... 'Eventually'?

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Commanders have big-time interest in WR Brandon Aiyuk. According to Rapoport, that interest stands as a key reason the 49ers haven't unloaded the disgruntled veteran yet. San Francisco doesn't want to release a guy it believes Washington will trade for, while the Commanders don't want to pay for a player they believe the Niners will release.

Brandon Aiyuk Won't Play This Season

The 49ers officially put an end to WR Brandon Aiyuk's season on Saturday, placing him on the reserve/left squad list. Aiyuk has not played since suffering a multi-ligament knee injury in Week 7 of the 2024 season. It's unclear exactly where he's at in his rehab, but Aiyuk never seemed likely to play this year after we learned the team voided the more than $25 million guaranteed for 2026 in his contract. Aiyuk is expected to be released this offseason and figures to draw plenty of interest. He turns 28 in March and has averaged 62 receiving yards per game for his career.

Brandon Aiyuk, 49ers Headed For Divorce

The 49ers have voided the more than $25 million guaranteed for 2026 in WR Brandon Aiyuk's contract, according to The Athletic. Aiyuk reportedly skipped meetings and other activities in recent months, as he's continued to work back from his October 2024 knee injury. Aiyuk will not be contesting the voided money. There have been "repeated overtures from team officials and even players to try to bring Aiyuk back into the fold," per The Athletic. But "it’s now likely that the 27-year-old has played his last game with the franchise." Aiyuk is expected to be released after the season.

Brandon Aiyuk "Not Close" To Returning

49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk (knee) is "not close" to returning, HC Kyle Shanahan said in a Thursday radio appearance. "There's no absolutes on these things," Shanahan said. "He's gotta continue to hit markers. He's tracking well, we'll be a better team when Brandon's out there... But it's not close." Shanahan said back in mid-August that "around Week 6" was when he was expecting to get Aiyuk back, but it's sounding like it could be later than that. Aiyuk is working back from a torn ACL and MCL suffered last October. If you've been stashing him in fantasy, try to hang on to him. But don't expect Aiyuk to be a contributor before the back half of the season.

Brandon Aiyuk Unlikely to be Cleared for Week 1, Opening Up WR Opportunities

49ers GM John Lynch stated that he "doesn't think" WR Brandon Aiyuk will be cleared for Week 1. Aiyuk tore his ACL and MCL last October in Week 7. Week 1 will mark a little over 10 months since sustaining the injury. There has been no official timeline laid out by the team for Aiyuk's return.

Jordan Watkins Appears on Track in His Development

Per beat writer Matt Barrows, 49ers rookie WR Jordan Watkins is "in position to be the 49ers’ No. 3 or 4 wide receiver and perhaps serve as the team’s primary punt returner.” Teammates have reportedly praised his "maturity and mental sharpness." There’s some appeal here in the deepest of fantasy leagues, especially with San Francisco banged up at WR. Brandon Aiyuk remains without a timetable to return, while Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings have dealt with summer injuries. Ultimately, Watkins is best viewed as a dynasty stash.
