Trey Benson Headshot

Cardinals RB Trey Benson (knee) will remain on IR, ending his 2025 season. The 23-year-old hasn’t played since Week 4.

What They're Saying

Here’s HC Jonathan Gannon on the news, via beat writer Bo Brack on X:

“He [Benson] just hasn’t progressed to the point that he can go out there and play football right now.”

2025 Fantasy Football Impact

ESPN’s Adam Schefter hinted at this possability a few days ago, so the news isn’t shocking.

Now, Arizona will move forward with a backfield of Zonovan Knight and Michael Carter, with Emari Demercado (ankle) a potential factor once healthy. Last week, Knight beat Carter in carry share -- 64% to 27% -- with Carter holding the edge in routes (48% to 24%).

Both guys carry considerable downside in a tough matchup vs. Houston, one they'll play without LT Paris Johnson. As of Wednesday, the Cardinals are implied for only 16.5 points.

Knight and Carter both sit outside the top-35 of our Week 15 PPR RB rankings

Dynasty Impact

This one's tricky.

Benson flashed big-play ability in his limited sample, gaining 160 yards on 29 attempts. He never saw more than 10 carries in a game, though. And he managed only 4.9 yards per catch on 13 receptions.

But what will his role be in 2026? The Cardinals could easily clean house after Gannon's third season. (They're 3-10, losers in five straight.) A new staff -- and perhaps GM -- would likely bring backfield competition.

Benson ultimately hits our dynasty RB rankings as a fringe top-30 player.
